K-pop icons SHINee (SM Entertainment) are set to celebrate their 17th debut anniversary with a meaningful and artistic new single, “Poet | Artist.” The digital release drops at midnight KST on May 25, the group’s official debut date, across various streaming platforms.
The single features two tracks: the title song “Poet | Artist” and “Starlight.” Both tracks promise to reflect the refined artistry and evolution of SHINee, who continue to push musical boundaries nearly two decades into their career.
The title track “Poet | Artist” is an electro-pop song that blends a rhythmic vocal riff with dynamic snares and reggae undertones. Jonghyun, the beloved late member of SHINee, participated in writing and composing the song. The lyrics convey a powerful message about embracing artistic freedom—encouraging listeners to apply poetic and creative license not only to art but also to everyday life. As both poet and artist, the song invites fans to break the mold and build something new together.
Notably, “Poet | Artist” was also the title of Jonghyun’s final solo album, released posthumously in 2018, adding deeper emotional resonance to SHINee’s new work.
The group previously received critical acclaim for their 2023 title track “HARD,” from their 8th full-length album, which showcased their resolve to face challenges with confidence and originality. With this latest release, SHINee is once again expected to captivate fans with their distinct blend of sound, message, and meaning.
In addition to the digital release, the “Poet | Artist” single will also be available in physical album format on May 26, with pre-orders beginning May 19 through various online and offline retailers.
To add a playful twist to the release, SHINee has also unveiled a whimsical “Fluffy SHINee” trailer, introducing five adorable character versions of the group. These “fluffy” mascots will be featured in various album versions and merchandise, offering fans another creative way to celebrate the group’s anniversary.
As SHINee steps into their 17th year, “Poet | Artist” not only honors their journey but also shines a spotlight on their enduring commitment to innovation, expression, and connection with fans around the world.
