Seoul – Popular girl group (G)I-DLE has officially changed their name to i-dle, dropping the ‘(G)’ as they celebrate their 7th anniversary and embark on a new chapter in their career. This change reflects the group’s evolution and determination to explore a wider range of musical styles beyond traditional boundaries.
Cube Entertainment, the group’s agency, explained that the decision to remove the ‘G’ signifies i-dle’s commitment to breaking free from gender labels and preconceived notions, allowing them to express their artistry more freely and authentically. The members themselves have expressed their excitement about the new identity, viewing it as a milestone in their growth.
Member Miyeon shared, “We said we would remove the ‘G’ once we got better, and now we feel like we have truly found our name.” Wonyoung added, “Although the old name was familiar after 7 years, with the new contract, we wanted to give a sense of rebranding and a fresh start.”
To mark this new beginning, i-dle released their 8th mini-album We are, which was met with enthusiastic responses from fans and critics alike. The album symbolizes a shift from ‘me’ to ‘we,’ emphasizing unity, growth, and mutual support within the group and their fanbase. All members contributed to the songwriting, showcasing their musical talents and artistic maturity.
