HYBE’s K-pop Global Strategy Pays Off: KATSEYE Debuts on Billboard Hot 100

HYBE’s bold push for the global expansion of K-pop has officially made waves on the U.S. charts.

KATSEYE, the global girl group jointly launched by HYBE and Geffen Records, has made a stunning debut on the Billboard Hot 100, one of the most prestigious music charts in the world. Their digital single “Gnarly” landed at No. 92 on the chart dated May 17, marking their very first appearance on the main Billboard singles chart.

This achievement comes shortly after their entry into the UK Official Singles Top 100, where Gnarly ranked No. 52—a rare feat for a rookie K-pop act and a clear indicator of their rising influence in the global mainstream pop market.

The single is also performing strongly on other major charts:

  • Billboard Global 200: No. 47
  • Billboard Global Excl. U.S.: No. 39
  • Billboard Emerging Artists: Re-entered at No. 11

Additionally, on Spotify’s Global Weekly Top Songs (for the week of May 2–8), Gnarly reached No. 60, signaling strong streaming momentum worldwide.

KATSEYE—consisting of Danielle, Lara, Manon, Megan, Sophia, and Yoonchae—is quickly proving to be a force in the global pop scene. The group was formed through the survival reality show The Debut: Dream Academy and has drawn attention for its diverse lineup and powerful stage presence.

In an official statement through HYBE, the members shared:
“This moment feels unreal and overwhelming. Having our name on the Billboard ‘Hot 100’ is like a dream for us.” They added, “We have worked really hard, and this result shows that effort and passion do bear fruit. We hope our journey can inspire every girl and boy striving for bigger dreams, even just a little bit.”

With just one official release under their belt and already climbing international charts, KATSEYE is setting a new precedent for what it means to be a next-generation global K-pop group—and they’re just getting started.
